Shut Down Zimmers Pets; A Cruel and Inhumane Pet Store

The Issue

I have gone into this pet store in Boyertown, PA many times. Each time, I see puppies sitting in enclosures with straw for bedding and little to no toys. Their water bowls are either filthy or nonexistent. The plastic parts of their enclosures are chewed because of the lack of engagement. The whole store reeks of urine and feces; it is utterly unsanitary. The puppies are sourced from puppy mills and subjected to inhumane conditions. When puppies are not sold, the owners reportedly kill them to make room for new, younger puppies.

Reptiles suffer too, kept in cramped spaces with no room to move. There are full grown pythons in tanks that have a length of less then half their body. Turtles and tortoises have been seen being kept in pens with no water source except to drink. They are not big enough for the reptiles to swim and bathe.

Zimmers Pets houses and sells reptiles, canines, felines, fish, birds, mice, bunnies, ferrets, and more. All of these different kinds of animals are kept in the same breathing air and within proximity of each other to contract illnesses. Because of this, diseases run rampant due to neglect from the store owners. It breaks my heart to witness these innocent creatures endure unnecessary suffering every time I visit.

The animals sold at this horrid place that are meant to go outside, never do. They are never taken outside to explore and smell grass, or feel the rain on their backs. These poor creatures are kept in pens roughly 20 times the size of them. This may seem like a lot of space, but there are other animals in this same pen. Imagine living in a 8' by 9' room, with glass walls, and 3-6 other people living with you. For weeks, sometimes even months, that is exactly the kind of treatment these animals endure.

So who is going to help them? Who is going to rescue these animals from this disgusting business? Some would say the people who buy these animals are helping. I say otherwise. By feeding into the business, you are giving money back to Zimmers Pets. With that money, they will continue to buy new animals from puppy and kitten mills. In turn, those mills will then continue to abuse animals and force them to reproduce. By 'saving' an animal from buying it here, all you are doing is hurting more animals.

It doesn't have to be that way. There is another way to end this cycle of cruelty. Read what is written here, do some research if you would like. Look into this, see what is being done in this pet store behind closed doors. This petition goes much further then simply shutting down an animal abuse business. If you help us, you will eliminate a huge customer in the puppy and kitten mill industry as well.

This establishment’s practices not only violate basic animal welfare laws but also tarnish our community’s reputation. According to the ASPCA, around 2 million puppies are sold each year through puppy mills, and establishments like this only contribute to these shocking statistics.

We need to hold them accountable, ensuring that all animals are treated with dignity and respect. I encourage the community to stand together to demand that authorities in Boyertown take immediate action to close this store. Let's aim for a future where businesses like this are replaced with compassionate, cruelty-free alternatives.

Please sign this petition to help us shut down this operation and prevent further animal cruelty in this small town community, and help set the stage for further animal rights advocation.
