I am a survivor of the Judge Rotenberg Center (JRC) in Canton, Massachusetts. I experienced firsthand the horrifying practices that this institution condones under the guise of 'treatment'. The JRC has been widely condemned for its use of torture and abuse, yet it continues to operate.

The United Nations' Special Rapporteur on Torture has classified some of the methods used at JRC as torture. These include electric shocks, prolonged restraints, and food deprivation among other cruel practices. This is not therapy; this is a gross violation of human rights.

The Disability Rights International reported in 2010 that students at JRC are subjected to painful electric shocks as part of their 'behavior modification' program. This form of punishment does not only cause physical harm but also leaves deep psychological scars.

It's time we put an end to this barbaric practice once and for all. We cannot stand by while vulnerable individuals are being tortured in our own backyard. We must raise our voices against such blatant disregard for human rights and dignity.

We call upon local government officials, child protection agencies, and all concerned citizens to take immediate action against these atrocities committed by the Judge Rotenberg Center.
