The Genocidal Israeli attack on the people of Palestine is a crime against humanity. Thousands of civilians, including over 13,000 children, have been murdered by one of the most heavily armed states in the world. The killing continues as two million people have been displaced in one of the most densely populated places on the planet.
Weapon parts used to kill Palestinians are being manufactured here in Newcastle. In September 2022, Pearson Engineering - who run the factory (used to be the Vickers Tank Factory on Scotswood Road) - was purchased by Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Ltd as part of a ‘strategic expansion’ into Britain by the weapons company owned by the Israeli state. The factory specialises in producing armoured military vehicles and is now under significant control of the Israeli Ministry of Finance.
Rafael has manufactured a range of weaponry and weapon parts for Israel’s murder and repression of Palestinians, including guided spike missiles. Despite these missiles being linked to killing of the 3 British aid workers, widespread civilian casualties and used to target a school where children were sheltering, Rafael describes these missiles as ‘extensively battle proven by the Israeli Air Force’.
We, the undersigned, call on Newcastle City Council to:
- Provide full transparency on the licence granted to Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Limited/Pearson Engineering that permits them to trade & operate in Newcastle Upon Tyne
- Launch a full enquiry to investigate which products manufactured from the Newcastle Armstrong works site are being used in the current conflict in Palestine.
- Publicly release their findings
