Shut Down Petco

Shut Down Petco

The Issue

Should animals undergo suffering? No. Should you lock animals in small spaces? Nuh-uh. Should you refrain from supplying them with necessities? Never. If you support Petco, you are supporting animal cruelty. From small, confined spaces to neglection to flat-out abuse, this is why we should wipe all Petcos off the face of the earth.

No Space

Everyone needs space, but Petco supplies their animals with little room. Take the mice enclosures, for instance; they can have tons of mice in one tiny tank. Do you know what that leads to? Stress, increased heart rate, poor air quality, and sexual devastation. All of that can eventually lead to death.

All fish need plenty of room to swim. That is what a regular person would think. Yet, as you walk into the fish section of any Petco, you are met with beta fish in circular containers, supplying little room to move. Worst of all, you can see the toll it's taking on these animals: fin rot, dull, unhealthy colors, and other symptoms that break any person's heart.

Birds in Petco are mistreated. They have tons of birds in small cages with the inability to fly. As I explained with the mice enclosures, this can lead to unhealthy effects, which harm them in many ways.

Neglect

Animals are neglected in Petco. According to Peta, "Dead hamsters’ partially eaten bodies were found in nearly two dozen enclosures—and that a hamster was eaten alive."

From the same source, "Workers didn’t notice that “pieces of deceased hamster” were scattered throughout the animals’ food and bedding. Gerbils had been denied access to water for so long that they drank “voraciously” when finally given some, hamsters were kept in cracked enclosures, “green fuzz” was found on spilled food, and boxes confining hamsters were stacked precariously, “swaying … in the breeze.” Other animals suffered from untreated eye problems, labored breathing, and hair and weight loss.".

That is so illegal that it's crazy that it happens.
