The Issue

Bedford's local skate park, once an acceptable place for locals to skateboard, has seen better days. Over the years, the decline in the park's maintenance has not only culminated, but also risks making it unsafe. I’m not sure how often you visit our local skate park, but just by taking a quick glance, you can see that it is in terrible condition. The half pipes and quarter pipes are worn, dented, and rusted; the rail is the same. Shards of rusted metal, from the failing ramps and quarter pipes are scattered across the ground. However, the part of the park that is in the worst condition is the pavement. There’s nothing better than gliding across a freshly paved road or new cement sidewalk on your board. However, if you were to hop on your broad and give it a push, you'll be lucky to make it 5ft before coming to a rattling and sudden halt. Here a few example pictures:

The local skaters of Bedford, IN are now left with an unusable public space and are facing the danger of physical injuries, due to its disrepair. By rebuilding the Bedford skatepark, we provide a safe and welcoming environment for our local skateboard enthusiast, and encourage physical activity within our community.

There are 2 neighboring cities, (Bloomington, IN and Nashville, IN), that have recently invested in new skate parks, and would be great examples for our local government to follow. The Nashville, IN park would be a great starting template for the space in Bedford. See below link for information and photos of Victory Park:

This space, would not only serve the local skateboard enthusiasts, but it would also attract more people; breathing life into our town. Local government investment in our skate park benefits our town socially and economically. Let us foster an environment that allows our youth, hobbyists, and skate obsessed locals to shred in an awesome, safe, and long lasting space.

Sign the petition, call on our local government to build a new skate park in Bedford, IN.
