This petition is a very important part of our case for re-opening gyms (with capacity limits or other restrictions similar to the past). It helps us demonstrate to government public support for keeping our sector open.

While we can all agree that physical activity is important for both physical and mental health, our argument primarily hinges on the lack of data shared with the public on where transmission is occurring. If this is because the government has no data, then the fitness sector should not be targeted alone.

If you want to help get data out to the public, you can request this information from your local health authority. Here is some sample wording courtesy of another gym owner:

We are formally requesting proof that fitness businesses are responsible for the recent spike in COVID-19 cases. We want to see your records that show the number of COVID-19 cases linked to fitness facilities in our region. If there are any such records of COVID-19 cases in these reports, we need to be provided details such as the date the transmission occurred and the business it was traced to. We are requesting proof that fitness facilities in our health region are linked to COVID-19 cases. It is my understanding that you must provide us with this information within 30 days of this request.
