Show Support for Beginning OHSU Med30 in Summer A Term 2026
The Issue
Med30 is currently projected to begin in the Summer B term (August 10th). This means Med30 will begin after July 1st, when HR1 goes into effect. If Med30 begins in Summer A instead (June 29th), they will have access to the same loan benefits as previous classes.
Other programs that normally begin in Summer B (Dentistry, Pharmacy, Human Nutrition, DNP, Medical Physics, and Radiation Therapy) are working on beginning the incoming class in Summer A, but not the School of Medicine.
While we understand that starting 6 weeks early is inconvenient, we do not believe this is an adequate reason to cause substantial long-term financial and professional consequences that will follow these future physicians long into their careers (or cause them to not become physicians at all). The future of healthcare depends on ensuring that every aspiring doctor has access to education, regardless of income.
We kindly request that the office of UME meet with the student council to discuss options and hear input from current students on this issue.
This petition simply helps demonstrate that this concern is held by many students who want the best future for Med30.
We appreciate your support.
