The Issue

People across eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island have been very seriously impacted by the biggest snowstorm in about 100 years over the previous weekend. This storm dumped more than 100 cm of snow in Cape Breton, and Pictou and Antigonish Counties in Nova Scotia, some reports even reaching 150 cm. People are stuck and stranded in their homes with nowhere to go, our seniors and vulnerable population are trapped, some homes are caving in, many driveways and roads are completely impassible, Communities are totally paralyzed, and more.

However, our premier, Tim Houston, couldn't care less. He even considered a local state of emergency in the CBRM to be a "PR stunt", and "an act that wasn't necessary". This has angered all of us Cape Bretoners, and people affected by this storm. I, like many others are calling for Premier Tim Houston to resign as premier of Nova Scotia over denying a Provincial state of Emergency, and his comments in yesterday's press briefing. He has not apologized for his actions, or comments at the time of this.

This is the time to act. Our premier is not worthy of being in charge of a province. We need someone in charge of a Province, whom is not only caring, and responsible, but someone who is not an incompetent fool, who sticks to their promises, and who will actually help ALL Nova Scotians, not just Haligonians, in a time of grave desperation. Denying a provincial State of Emergency, and commenting in a press briefing that was aired nationally, that a local State of Emergency in the CBRM was a "PR stunt", has crossed the line in the eyes of all of us living in eastern Nova Scotia that were affected by this historic storm.
