Shireland Road Needs a Pedestrian Crossing to keep Our Children Safe

The Issue

My son attends Shireland Hall Primary Academy. Like many other parents, we face the daunting task of crossing the busy Shireland Road. This task isn't just challenging; it's dangerous.

Shireland Road in Smethwick is a major road connecting Cape Hill to Birmingham City Centre. Shireland Hall Primary Academy is not the only school affected. Parents and pupils from Shireland Technology Primary and Shireland Collegiate Academy have to cross the road everyday too.

Most people need to cross at the junction with Montague Road and Gilbert Road, outside the Shireland pub. This dangerous pinch-point is a growing concern not only for me but for countless others, as it poses a serious risk for our children.

The absence of a pedestrian crossing means we're left vulnerable each time we try to cross. It's not an inconvenience; it's a ticking time bomb.

An accident is inevitable unless we act now. Installing a pedestrian crossing would provide a safe passage for our children, and peace of mind for parents.

Sign this petition to bring about much-needed change.

Crossing points are proven to reduce accidents. Our community deserves an environment where children can get to school safely. A pedestrian crossing is a simple, yet effective solution to an urgent problem. We call on Sandwell Council to prioritise the safety of our children and put a pedestrian crossing on Shireland Road.

Please support this petition to create a safer route for our children.
