Every year about 1500 whales are killed. With a population that is in decline, the hunting will lead the whales to extinction. The method of hunting the whale is painful and inhumane. That alone is reason enough to enforce the ban on whaling. A harpoon laced with explosives is launched from a cannon. Once the harpoon hits the explosives go off burrowing the hooks deep into the tissues of the poor helpless animal. After that, the whales are dragged in, killed and processing all in one location. There is no humane way to kill a whale and despite the international ban, countries like Japan are still doing it. If nothing is done the whales will be hunted to extinction.
