2 Sept 2017
Dear Friends, Thank you once again for speaking out for Jasper, a bear who tragically lost her life in Incline Village, NV due to an "accidental" shooting by a sheriff's deputy. Thank you, also, to those who donated to our campaign to help educate the residents of northwest Nevada on how to be "bear smart". We are happy to share that we met our fundraising goal, and hope to have the 15,000 educational postcards delivered in bear country within the next two weeks! As part of our campaign to educate Nevada residents about both the annual bear hunt, which is set to take 20 lives during the 2017 hunt season, and the need for residents living within bear country to exercise "bear smarts", we have launched "A Month of Action for NV Bears". Simply select "going" at the Facebook event page found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/393070324429005 and 2-3 times per week throughout the month of September we will share quick, easy-to-do actions you can take to help educate friends and family about black bears. We hope you will get involved! Knowledge is power, and the sharing of knowledge means lives saved for wildlife both within Nevada and across the country. The unnecessary and brutal killing of wildlife by trophy hunters and other "thrill killers" must be put an end to once and for all. To support our work for Nevada bears and against trophy hunting, contributions of any amount are gratefully accepted at: cwint.org/donate. Thank you once again for your support of Jasper, and of our campaigns! For the Animals, Carrie LeBlanc, M.A. Executive Director CompassionWorks International Ps. If you are in Reno or in Las Vegas, we will have protests to mark the start of the hunt season on September 16th. Event links and reminders can be found at the Month of Action for NV Bears event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/393070324429005.
