Dear Supporters
Here is an update on the Sheffield Tree Campaign.
1. The Secretary of State for the Environment, Michael Gove, has intervened!! Read more here: http://bit.ly/2vuEg4D & here: http://bit.ly/2wBQ5X1
“The environment secretary has sent a letter to the council demanding an end to the “destruction of thousands of mature trees”, which he said would “damage our children’s rightful inheritance”
2. The Woodland Trust have also issued a statement here: http://bit.ly/2uypVD7
“We have attempted to influence the city council’s thinking on the Streets Ahead programme, as like all concerned residents we have serious misgivings about the reasoning behind the felling of so many thousands of healthy mature trees”
3. Watch a beautiful video on the Chelsea Rd Elm here: http://bit.ly/2vY4EWY
4. Dave Dillner, Calvin Payne and Green Party Councillor Alison Teal find out next week whether court injunctions will be granted: http://bit.ly/2uyhCaq
5. Trailflex as an option to retain Street Trees? http://bit.ly/2fyAm6M
6. How about Flexi™-Pave? http://www.kbiuk.co.uk/
The multiple mature and healthy London Plane trees on Ecclesall Rd are individually worth upwards of £60,000 each. To consider destroying such valuable community assets is sheer insanity. Why then are Labour Cllrs Bryan Lodge and Julie Dore even entertaining this possibility? We demand Honesty, Integrity, Accountability from our Labour Cllrs and MPs. The misinformation and misleading of Sheffield citizens, stops now.
The pressure also continues to mount on Paul Billington (Director of Culture and Environment) & Steve Robinson (Head of Highways) to comply with current arboricultural practice and STOP felling healthy street trees in Sheffield. Pavement repairs and road resurfacing around trees happens every day all over the country and the entire world without consequence. The clamour of dissenting expert voices, gets louder by the day.
As always, thank you all for your continued help and support, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. Help spread the message and save Sheffield’s Street Trees! Continue to write to your Cllrs and the papers and let them know how you feel about your trees. Together we are making a difference.
Whose trees? Our Trees!
Whose Trees?? OUR TREES!!
