Stop The Development of 14 Hectares of Active Floodplain for Warehouse Distribution Units
The Issue
Sheffield City Council is supporting the inappropriate development of 14 hectares (34.5 acres) of functional floodplain at the Outokumpu/Grange Mill site, Fife St S9 for big warehouse distribution units. The current planning application for enabling works (20/02550/FUL) is a platform to deliver the wider development site.
The development of this floodplain land is in direct contravention of National Planning Policy and Sheffield's Strategic Flood Assessment which says that development should be directed away from the functional floodplain. This development is an area which is prone to flooding from Blackburn Brook, most recently 7 November 2019 (pictured flooding Fife St, the entrance to the Outokumpu site).
Sheffield City Council should require the applicant Junction 34 Limited (20/02550/FUL) to carry out an 1) Environmental Impact Assessment and 2) Health Impact Assessment in order to mitigate the negative impact (traffic, noise, pollution, flooding and bisection of the Trans Pennine Trail) of this massive development on the communities of Wincobank and Blackburn.
