Dear Supporters,
I suspect many of you have heard the news about the Rustlings Road fellings and the appalling way that residents have been treated. Five brave souls have now been arrested on behalf of the trees. We are all very grateful to them to standing up for what we all believe in. It is an outrage that we are being treated this way by the police force that is supposed to protect the people and OUR elected representatives that are supposed to work on behalf of us. Instead they are both supporting the work of Amey PLC. Private interests for private profit.
On the upside these new events have stirred up a lot media, awareness and support for the campaign.
What can you do?
1. Please find attached details of the most recent tree felling proposals for Nether Edge streets.
The roads in question are:
Montgomery Road
Psalter Lane
Sheldon Road
Ventnor Place
Wostenholm Road
If you live on one of these roads you should already have received a letter from the council containing your unique code which will allow you to complete the online survey and oppose these fellings. If more than 50% of respondents disagree with the proposals, the trees in question will be referred to the Independent Tree Panel for further consideration. Please be aware that previous survey letters have been sent out in plain brown envelopes and could easily be mistaken for junk mail. If you believe you may have discarded your survey letter or have yet to receive one, please get in touch with Streets Ahead on 0114 2734567 (option 1) and ask for a replacement letter to be sent or to have your unique code and the link to the survey sent to you via e-mail.
It's vitally important that as many residents as possible respond to these surveys. Please talk to your neighbours and make sure they are aware of the situation and direct them to our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/969911106414893 and website http://www.savesheffieldtrees.org.uk/ for further information.
Surveys for these roads open today and close on 9th December.
2. It is also IMPERATIVE that you comment on the Draft Tree Strategy on the Council website. You only have until 1st December to comment.
https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/parks-woodlands--countryside/trees--woodlands/strategy-consultation.html
An adequate tree strategy that has been commissioned, draughted in accordance with current arboricultural good practice and recommendations is the ONLY way to ensure that our trees are properly managed and the valuable eco system services that they offer be preserved for the benefit of the environment and all who live within it. STAG believe that it is necessary that the tree strategy include a sub-strategy specifically for highway trees.
If you can find time to participate in the consultation, please do. It is quite long but don't get bogged down and if you can't comment on everything then simply make comments on question 16 which is specific to Highway Trees. More information to help you is on our website under resources and FAQs.
3. There is a gathering at Endcliffe Park this weekend 12 noon at the drive way, central entrance where Rustlings Road meets Ecclesall Road where Delilah was you can view details here on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/events/1761916857466965/
Please come and show your solidarity and bring your banners. If there is one amazing thing coming from this its the gathering of our communities. Shine a light!
In Solidarity,
Save NE Trees
