Save Nether Edge Trees - Court Update and Dates For Your Diary
Sep 6, 2016 — Dear Supporters
There is some good news and some bad news….
As some of you may have recently read or heard, the High Court case taken by private citizen Mr Dave Dillner was not as successful as he would have hoped on the SPECIFIC legal points raised for this case and it does not mean that what SCC’s Streets Ahead project and Amey are doing is ALL correct per se.
He and we must not be disheartened. Much has been achieved by Mr Dillner and campaigners over the last year and it is not over now. Concerned citizens are now on high alert regarding SCC’s Streets Ahead project and their contractor Amey - and that is where you can continue to help! Please make sure you are keeping up with the campaign’s developments, sharing your experiences, opinions and evidence on STAG (Sheffield Tree Action Groups) Facebook:
On a more positive note, Save Nether Edge trees have had a very busy summer.
Paul Selby and team held a fantastic event at the Elm tree in August with the kind support of the Woodland Trust, Butterfly Conservation and Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust. They hired an open top bus which parked under the Chelsea Road Elm and invited people to come and spot the rare White Letter Hairstreak butterflies who live in the tree. It was a wonderful day that attracted plenty of media attention. Here is an audio clip created by the Woodland Trust with interviews from the day, its quite moving and definitely worth a listen. https://clyp.it/zvefxcsh
And it was also featured in the Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/aug/04/tree-saving-campaign-focuses-eyes-on-the-white-letter-hairstreak
We need to continue placing the spotlight on this rare elm and other valuable mature street trees of nether edge its all hands on deck going into autumn and your help no matter how great or small is valued.
