Dear All We hope you have had a fantastic Christmas. We had one of the best Christmas presents we could have asked for, when our online petition exceeded the 1000 mark! We now have just under 3000 in total including our paper signatures. Welcome to all our new supporters and thank you for joining us. We need the support, since as many of you already know the Tree Surveys have now landed in Nether Edge with 16 roads under consultation and 18 roads with condemned trees. Thanks to Chris Rust who has created a specific Trees at Risk map for Nether Edge. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zFcKphOvGxXU.k6W9NFl23hG0 If you live on one of the listed roads then please ensure that you fill out your survey and return it before the 4th January 2016. We are aware that many residents have had problems with links to the survey so we have attached a full list of the roads and links at the bottom of this update. The vast majority of these trees are structurally sound, healthy trees which will be felled because of kerb displacement or pavement disruption. We are repeatedly told by Councillor Fox and Councillor Julie Dore, that “felling is a last resort”. Darren Butt (Operations Director for Amey) has said (On 17th November, 2015, at the Amey Roadshow in Heeley) that his arboricultural team has worked with Graeme Symonds’s (Amey’s Core Investment Project Director) highway construction team to develop a range of alternative highway engineering specifications for footway and kerb construction, which the Council have not mentioned or made available to the public. If there are alternative specifications then why can’t they be used? Three years in to a £2.2bn city-wide highway maintenance project, why has nobody contacted the Managing Director of Flexi-Pave? Why is machinery being used within the “protection zone” defined by National Joint Utilities Group Guidance? And why is nobody on site ensuring compliance with the guidance, since Amey claim all employees have received NJUG training and comply with NJUG guidance? Remember though that the buck stops with Sheffield City Council, they are supposed to monitor and oversee Amey. What are the Council doing to ensure that Amey have and do all that they claim? What evidence is there? Why can’t we see it? Why is it not made available? For more on this you can visit http://www.savesheffieldtrees.org.uk/tree-panel-and-surveys-advice-and-information/ Please ask these questions and complain, complain, complain. And when you get a unique reference number please send us a copy to CMTrees@outlook.com. Thank you to all residents who have already written complaints and to those who have done door to door visits raising awareness about the Tree Surveys and the NE campaign. If you have any time to lend to the campaign small or large please use our online sign up form to offer your help http://goo.gl/forms/l7YOcFdGrb We have great plans for the campaign next year and will get off to a flying start with a New Years Day Bike Ride around our condemned trees lead by Chris Rust. Starting at 10.30am at the corner of Barkers Road and Ladysmith Avenue see the full route and details here https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zFcKphOvGxXU.k6W9NFl23hG0 All are welcome so please join us! And finally we had a double page spread in yesterdays Star. http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/row-over-sheffield-tree-felling-set-to-ramp-up-in-2016-1-7641587 http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/letters-opinion/editors-opinion-tree-campaign-will-not-be-going-away-1-7645320 With your support we will continue to go from strength to strength into 2016!
