Since launching this petition Saturday evening we've garnered the support of people from all over our city and have watched with excitement and pride as the number of signatures grew from a few hundred to a few thousand to where it sits now, on the cusp of fifteen thousand!

But we've also been witness to the horrors and outrages perpetrated by the Columbus Police Department who have continued to abuse their power and betray the oath they took to defend both the people of Columbus and the constitution of the United States. We've seen them spray, gas, and fire upon peaceful protesters, including the city council president Shannon Hardin and Congresswoman Joyce Beatty. We've seen them assault and threaten members of the free press. And all the while Mayor Ginther and Chief Quinlan have continued to present ignorant responses regarding these actions when prompted by the media and have even resorted to finger pointing and "what about-isms" when questioned about this behavior.

Their conduct does not suggest an evolution of any kind over the course of the past few days, which leads to only one conclusion... They have learned nothing from the unprecedented levels of activism exhibited by the people of Columbus.

Combined all of this serves to provide renewed belief in the necessity of this petition. These men seem unwilling or disinterested in accepting responsibility for the consequences that this city and it's people have suffered as a result of their failed leadership. Because of this I urge you all to continue to talk about and share things to your social media and to promote this petition to your friends and family, coworkers and neighbors, and of course your fellow protesters.

Columbus deserves better and we must continue to demand it.
