SHA has made an unfortunate decision to ban out of town female hockey players from playing in larger centres where all girls teams are available. They are essentially forcing many girls to quit hockey! Older girls would be forced to play on boys' contact hockey teams, dress in a separate change room and be isolated from their teammates. Parents who are willing to pay their fees, are dedicated team members and are willing to drive their children to a larger centre should have the choice to do so. This is a backwards step for female hockey and is very disappointing to me as a parent, a coach and a player. Personally, my daughters have teammates that will no longer have a place to play hockey. They are losing out on the incredible benefits of sport. 

EDIT: please see the info from Play Like A Girl in the updates below. They make some very valid points. An email from SHA is also included in the updates. They claim there are 'numerous' associations that plan to create teams for these players. (Play Like A Girl counters this, much better than I could. Please see the updates below.)
