Chief Neff and I spoke on Saturday. First, I will say I am grateful for his call and for the conversation we had. The Chief has asked that I would not make all the specifics of that conversation public, so, I apologize if this is more vague than you would normally expect.
The firehouse is currently testing new procedures and new equipment, which, if successful, will alleviate some of the burden imposed by the fire horn. The burden during normal working hours is likely to remain substantial. The burden during other hours will be more bearable. More specific information will be forthcoming.
Speaking personally, I will say that I am grateful for the Chief's sincere and responsible approach to this issue. Undoubtedly, and for good reason, some of you will be happier with the changes than others. It would be good for us to come to a consensus about whether this petition should be retired in light of the Chief's response or whether more needs to be done. Please message me through this website if you would like to be a part of that conversation.
