Gain a free undergraduate ninth semester at Seton Hall University for all students.

Gain a free undergraduate ninth semester at Seton Hall University for all students.

The Issue

In the midst of an unprecedented, global COVID-19 Pandemic, Seton Hall University has allowed incoming freshman in the Class of 2024 that enroll in the Fall 2020 semester the opportunity to take a free, ninth undergraduate semester.  Seton Hall University has addressed this opportunity to incoming freshman as follows:

"Seton Hall will be offering a tuition-free ninth semester to all incoming freshman who enroll at Seton Hall in the fall 2020 semester.

This is to provide peace of mind to the many students beginning their college career during a pandemic. We want students to feel confident that they will have all the time needed to fully engage in campus activities, study abroad, internships and research opportunities as well as pursue a double major or a minor. This opportunity alleviates concern around added time or cost by providing the ninth semester tuition free to any student who needs to enroll for the additional semester to complete their studies."

Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors have inexplicably been left out of this offer, while being sent home in March of 2020, leaving many to struggle through the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester while also being deprived of the same issues, such as not being able to fully engage in campus activities, eliminated study abroad sessions during the Summer of 2020, and canceled internships and research opportunities during the Summer of 2020.  The struggles of the Class of 2021, Class of 2022, and Class of 2023 should not go unnoticed, and all students should be granted the same opportunity to pursue their studies in the midst of a global pandemic.  The Class of 2024 should not be favored more than any other class, for all students have been deprived the chance to a successful education.

Please sign this petition if you are a member of the Class of 2021, Class of 2022, or Class of 2023 at Seton Hall University, and have been deprived the opportunity to fully engage in campus activities, study abroad sessions, internships, research opportunities, or now will not be able to pursue an additional major or minor.  This petition will serve as a conversation starter with Seton Hall University, and will allow us to further our conversation and fight for equal opportunities.  Attached is a link to the article posted to the Seton Hall University website describing this motion in full.
