OUR petition is being tabled in Victorian State Parliament in June. We need as many faces and voices as possible to maximise media coverage, to increase acknowledgement of historical institutional child sexual abuse in Beaumaris and surrounding communities. In crisis management, Acknowledgement is the first step to an Apology, that can lead to an Assurance of commitments, that should then result in Actions. The intergenerational trauma of childhood sexual abuse is a crisis that has yet to result in essential services and supports in too many communities. One part of achieving justice, namely doing what is right, moral and restorative.
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse resulted in a national acknowledgement and apology, and a number of recommendations that Federal and State governments have varied in their levels of assurance and commitments, let alone, actions.
Our petition is asking the Victoria State Government to consider ...
not why they should act, as the moral, social and economic benefits are well known and compelling,
nor
what they should do, as there are too many local and international frameworks and case studies they can adopt and adapt,
but
why haven't they acted?
