Final update to this petition!

Transport for London has published its final report on London's Ultra Low Emissions Scheme (ULEZ), today, June 13, 2025. Within the report it claims that 680 vehicles were donated to Ukraine from the 53,000 that were committed by Londoners to the scheme, the vast majority being scrapped by private, for-profit firms:

Tfl says: 'The scheme supported international humanitarian efforts, with over 680 vehicles donated to support medical and humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.' 

Scheme operator British Ukrainian Aid claims that 650 vehicles have been delivered, leaving 30 unaccounted for. 

As the person who started this petition on August 29th, 2023, I guess my view is that we achieved a qualified success. 650 vehicles translates into valuable aid worth a couple of £millions to Ukraine. That is unquestionably great.

Could Ukraine have received a share greater than 1.2% of the vehicles scrapped? Of course, had it began earlier when the Mayor had ample scope to get involved, with explicit requests from Kyiv as early as May 2023, but refused to act for the whole of 2023; and had more groups been involved by TfL to execute the offer and administrate the scheme, instead of handing a monopoly to one charity who made lots of mistakes. 

Nonetheless it falls to me to thank each and every one of you who supported this petition, and it offers proof that sometimes these petitions and the campaigns around them can translate into action. Our thoughts are with Ukraine now and always, and the picture above shows a group of Americans who just went last week with four vehicles for Car for Ukraine - now on 654 trucks delivered to the frontline, worth nearly $6 million. If you want to keep supporting Ukraine I recommend this group with whom I have worked now for three years. Many other such groups are still very active: salutes all round.
