Approximately 80% of the Southern Residents’ food is Chinook salmon. Historically, the Snake River has produced millions and millions of Chinook salmon each year. The Snake River dams kill millions and millions of salmon. The Snake River has the most potential to provide Southern Resident orcas the abundant Chinook salmon they need to survive.
