Seek the Release of Afiya Siddiqui: A Sister, A Pakistani, A Muslim
The Issue
We begin our appeal with the story of Afiya Siddiqui - a woman close to our hearts, who is our sister in faith and nationality. Afiya, a Pakistani national and a devout Muslim, is a representation of us, and we feel her pain like our own.
It is both heartbreaking and concerning that Afiya is held in confinement under circumstances that remain cloudy to many of us. We want transparency about her situation, as she has a right to fair trial and humane treatment. In the light of international statutes, we request that Afiya’s rights as a human being and an accused are upheld without prejudice.
We must not forget that Pakistan and UNICEF have reported a significant increase in gender disparities and human rights violations in recent years, further stressing the need to defend the vulnerable, like Afiya ("Pakistan National Human Development Report", UNDP). This serves as a reminder about the necessary work to be done to ensure the protection and support of our fellow citizens.
We request the intervention of influential bodies and individuals who can support in securing Afiya's release. We stand fast by her as a community, driven by a common belief in the dignity of all persons and their right to justice. Please join us in amplifying this cause. Sign the petition today, and contribute to making a significant change in Afiya’s life..
