The issue

In an appalling incident of animal cruelty that has deeply shaken many of us, Michael Anthony Holmes, a 61-year-old , was involved in a horrific act of senseless

cruelty against a helpless kangaroo in the NSW Southern Tablelands region. On the afternoon of April 13, Holmes heartlessly tied a rope around the neck of a female adult kangaroo and dragged the poor creature 400 meters behind his car to a road near Bywong. The kangaroo was found shortly after, enduring severe and agonizing injuries, with the rope still affixed around her neck. This act goes beyond imagination and presents a grim reminder of the cruelty that animals face.

Holmes stands accused of recklessly beating the kangaroo, causing prolonged suffering and committing an act of aggravated cruelty. As someone who believes animals deserve a voice and protection from such heartless acts, I want to stress that justice must be served. Our current legal framework fails to impose severe enough punishments to deter such horrendous actions. It is disheartening to witness the systemic failures that allow perpetrators of animal cruelty to escape with minimal consequences.

This petition calls on authorities to ensure Holmes faces criminal charges without the opportunity to appeal. By denying appeals in cases of such aggravated cruelty, justice can be served promptly and decisively, setting a precedent for future cases. It's crucial to enact swift and stringent legal measures to protect voiceless animals from undue harm. Every innocent life matters, and those who violate this basic tenet must face the full extent of the law.

Sign this petition to demand justice for the innocent victim and push for harsh penalties that reflect the severity of the crime. Together, we can bring about change and an unequivocal message that society will not tolerate such cruelty.
