The Issue

In June 2026, my life took a devastating turn when I was deported from the United States despite holding a valid work permit. I was torn away from my wife, an American citizen, and our eight-year-old autistic son. The traumatic experience has left my family grappling with overwhelming stress and emotional despair. My wife is not only left to care for our son alone, but the emotional strain has forced her to seek counseling.

Our story is not unique. Many families have endured the heart-wrenching ordeal of separation due to deportations executed by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Shockingly, many of those deported had valid work permits, Social Security cards, and driver's licenses, living productive and contributing lives within the community.

While I had a pending asylum case due to a kidnapping incident in Mexico, I was informed that such incidents do not qualify for asylum, culminating in my deportation. Countless others share similar stories, caught in a system that does not consider their unique circumstances or the validity of their permits.

The American Dream is built on family unity and the belief that every individual has the right to seek a life free from fear and persecution. These values stand in stark contrast to the separation of families who have made the United States their home.

We strongly urge Congress to take definitive action to address and rectify the injustices inflicted by ICE's deportation practices. Reunification processes must be accelerated for families of deported individuals who had valid work permits, ensuring that separations do not result from administrative errors or oversight.

We propose the formation of a bipartisan congressional task force to review and reform current immigration policies concerning work permit holders. This task force should be empowered to recommend legislative adjustments that protect the integrity of families and acknowledge the unique contributions of immigrant workers.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for justice, compassion, and the reunification of families who have been torn apart. As a nation built on the principles of equality and fairness, it is imperative that we take action to rebuild lives and communities disrupted by these policies. Please sign and support this call for congressional intervention to reunite families and uphold human dignity.
