Monte Vista Primary School respectfully submit this petition in support of our request to acquire or lease the field situated opposite the school grounds.

We have been a cornerstone of the community for 63 years, serving generations of families and continuing to grow in both numbers and impact. As the school expands, so too does the need for adequate, safe and functional outdoor space to support the holistic development of ourlearners.

At present, we face significant limitations in accommodating sport and physical education. Due to restricted space, learners are required to participate in split sport sessions, limiting both the quality and consistency of their sporting experience. This is despite the school’s results in improving its sports programmes and promoting active, healthy lifestyles among its learners.

Access to the adjacent field would provide a meaningful solution. It would allow the school to:

• Expand and improve its sports programmes
• Provide structured, supervised recreational space for learners
• Support the physical and social development of children in a safe environment

There are also growing concerns around safety in the area. As an open, unfenced space, the field and surrounding park are often used in ways that are not always aligned with the safety of children. Many children spend time in these areas while waiting for transport, which increases their exposure to potential risks, particularly in the afternoons and evenings.

By allowing the school to lease or purchase the field and secure it through fencing and management, the field can be transformed into a safe, well-maintained and purpose-driven environment that benefits both learners and the neighbourhood around us. This initiative is not about exclusion: It is about responsible use of a valuable community asset, ensuring that it serves the developmental needs of the neighbourhood while contributing positively to the area. We call on all residents and relevant authorities to support Monte Vista Primary School in its request to acquire this piece of land for the betterment of our children's futures.
