Glasgow is investing heavily in cycle lanes and active travel routes — around £470 million for 270 km of new infrastructure. But thousands of families living in tenement flats have nowhere safe to store their bikes, making it impossible to use these facilities.

Like myself many families in Glasgow’s over 60,000 traditional tenement flats, we cannot build storage in our back courts, and storing bikes inside flats is unsafe and impractical.

Our Request:

We are asking Glasgow City Council to:

Install secure bike storage options for tenement and flat residents.
Pilot on-street lockers or shared storage pods in areas with high numbers of tenement families.
Ensure families can safely store bikes and make full use of the city’s new cycle lanes.

A secure bike locker costs only £2,000–£3,000 and can hold 6 bikes. A small investment like this would enable thousands of families to cycle safely, increase use of the council’s £470 million cycle lane network, and help raise a new generation of cyclists.
