The Issue

For the last 8 years, we have operated a fully functioning food pantry In the south side of the City  of Syracuse, New York, offering vital support to residents in need. Our services extend beyond food provision: we are a hub for disseminating information on community services, facilitating civic engagements, and providing health-related guidance. Our focus has been on supporting residents at or below the poverty level, who rely heavily on our resources.

Recently, we received a 90-day eviction notice due to the sale of our current building, which is beyond our financial reach as a nonprofit. This unforeseen challenge threatens our ability to continue serving our community effectively.

We have actively sought affordable building options on the south side of Syracuse to house our pantry and extend our services. However, our attempts have been hampered by unfulfilled promises from the local Home Headquarters/landbank. We need your support to pressure local authorities and organizations to assist us in securing a repairable or fixer-upper building suitable for our needs and budget.

Purchasing a location for our services is crucial not only for maintaining our existing programs but also for expanding our capacity to support the community. This will allow us to continue being a pillar for those in need and ensure that no one in Syracuse goes without essential resources. We are determined to own our destiny and control our narrative by owning the property and not continuous rental payments to non-supportive entities.
We urge community members, local officials, and organizations to come together and help us secure a place that will allow our mission to continue and grow. We have many failed efforts to affordably purchase with Landbank or Home Headquarters! Please sign this petition to support our cause and keep our community center alive in Syracuse.
