Jim Shannon, MP for Strangford, tabled a debate on the 12 March 2024 in Westminster Hall on the changes in State pension age imposed upon 1950s born women.

50sWomen contend that "they have been discriminated against on the grounds of sex & age & that they have been disproportionately impacted by the changes (to State Pension Age), compared with men and younger women.... I very much agree with that"

"The issue is all about fairness & equality, but, with respect to the Minister & the Government, they have fallen down on that"

"In November 2022 I went to Downing Street with campaigners to deliver my Early Day Motion number 430. The motion was signed by 87 members in this House and called for full financial restitution for women born in the 1950s"

"The Treasury saved over £200 billion through the changes that have been made to  State Pensions"

"I continue to support the case for Full Restitution because that is in principle the right demand"

£58 billion was put forward by UK Labour in 2019 to resolve the issue
"I believed it was a legal contingent liability anyway" 

"Sometimes tackling injustices can be expensive, but it is right"

Hon Dr Jocelynne Scutt's Judge's report from the CEDAWinLAW People's Tribunal  is in agreement, as she concludes that both Domestic and International Law have been breached

It would appear that it is all the more urgent for mediation talks to begin promptly, as David Hencke's latest report  indicates that the Parliamentary Ombudsman's office is shortly to be left without a boss
