Cancel permission for the construction of a new dolphinarium in Puerto Morelos

The Issue

Stop the construction of yet ANOTHER dolphin prison in Mexico.

Mexico has one of the biggest dolphinaria industries in the world.  This one country alone holds 10% of all captive dolphins.  Studies show dolphins suffer terribly in captivity and increasingly more and more countries are starting to ban dolphin captivity.

Mexico has 29 facilities, 18 in the area where this new dolphinarium is proposed to be built.  There are 350 dolphins suffering in Mexico at present and we absolutely do not need anymore.

A 2015 report into dolphin captivity (www.dolphinsfree.org) highlights high rates of calf mortality,  over work and extreme suffering of dolphins due to captivity and the horrendous Swim With the Dolphins (SWD).  On top of that the new facility will be built in an area which has a delicate coral reef and the damage from the facility could destroy it.

Mexico is a country with a history of corruption and poor animal welfare laws.  Laws governing dolphin captivity are there to serve the interests of the dolphin industry not the animals.  The proposed facility is going to be built in secret, the hotel hosting the facility is refusing to admit they're even building it.

As if that isn't enough, PETA recently published a complaint to the Mexican government highlighting the illegality of dolphinaria under Mexican law.  Circuses have been banned in Mexico, so why are these aquatic circuses still allowed to exist?

The company building the new facility, the Via Delphi Group, has a terrible history of capture, import/export and death in it's facilities.  Enough is enough of this brazen abuse and exploitation of other beings.  SAY NO TO THE NEW DOLPHINARIUM IN PUERTO MORELOS
