Petition updateAdd a School to Fort Lawton Re-development plans
Next step... find out if the city supports collaborating with SPS on the redevelopment of Fort Lawto

Fort Lawton School CoalitionSeattle, WA, United States
5 Oct 2017
There has not been an official response from the city to the Seattle School Board's Resolution asking to be included in the EIS process for the Fort Lawton Land. It is important to note that if the school district is to be considered by the US Department of Education for a portion the land, it must cooperate with the City as the master re-developer for the land. We are hopeful that the city also recognizes this opportunity to impact tens of thousands of students once a school can be built on the site.
Please let our City Council Members and Mayor know that we the electorate wish to see the school district included in the redevelopment of this land from this point on. Having the city develop the land and consider the option of a school at the site in the future will be too hard of a lift for future political leaders. SPS deserves to be at the table now. From an equity standpoint, Fort Lawton land could be also used for an environmental learning center, allowing students from the entire district who otherwise lack access to environmental learning opportunities to come and learn about the amazing northwest habitats on day-trips to the Crown Jewel of Seattle Parks.
Also, Please thank our school board members for their leadership and for the continued work on the part of our district staff.
