Unanimous board passage of the Fort Lawton resolution

In a roller coaster of a day, the Seattle Public Schools board unanimously passed its resolution to formally ask the city to be included in the environmental impact statement for Fort Lawton. They are not looking for the whole parcel of land, they are looking to collaborate with the city and the redevelopment of the space. It is well known that any housing that goes in there must have appropriate educational infrastructure to accommodate it. This land provide so many opportunities for the burgeoning student growth and upcoming capacity crisis in this area, not to mention a wealth of opportunity for environmental education learning! We are exceptionally grateful for the school board directors who showed tremendous leadership and long- range planning for the capacity needs in this district. Thank you also to the community members who came to speak and to support the resolution. We will have much more work to do in the coming weeks, developing broad consensus and widespread support of the plan to enable the most effective out come with the city.
