The council have published little or no evidence that the introduction of the 20mph zone on most roads in Cambourne will have any positive impact on public safety or reducing road accidents. There is little evidence from long term studies that 20mph zones have any impact at all on accidents, or that there is widespread compliance with measures in Cambourne or anywhere else.

Driving on the roads in a 20mph zone also often leads to drivers constantly checking their speedometer rather than keeping their eyes on the road, and a sense of underlying anxiety and frustration which is not good for driver awareness.

The roads in Cambourne are wide, many are surrounded by generous pathways and already have established crossings for pedestrians to cross safely that is standard provision in a newly designed town. In many cases there are no houses directly at the roadside but residencies are in cul-de-sacs. These safety measures alone are sufficient for 30mph zones.

There is no need for a blanket 20mph speed limit on all roads in Cambourne. At most there is an argument for there being a 20mph zone outside of schools where school children congregate.

Reinstate the 30mph zones in Cambourne.
