Keep Disabled People As Decision Makers

Keep Disabled People As Decision Makers

The Issue

Alyn Smith, MP for Stirling, and the SNP's Policy Development Convener, is proposing that disabled people lose their two reserved seats at the decision making table in the SNP's National Executive Committee (NEC).

Alyn has stated that topics raised by representatives of disabled people are 'peripheral issues' and suggests they be relegated to a powerless advisory Forum of other underrepresented people who would also be disenfranchised by this decision.

We, the undersigned, call on the SNP to reject the MP for Stirling's proposals. While we may not all be SNP members, disabled people or indeed supporters of the SNP or Scottish independence, we value the inclusion of disabled people as decision makers in the SNP's NEC.
