If you are one of the 400 who have just signed up between yesterday and now, then thank you! It's great to know that more and more people are waking up to what it happening in Balloch on Loch Lomond as this may potentially be the future of every area of beauty in Scotland - that is, that developers can find their way into our areas through quangos and not direct democracy. Our feeling of late is that the odds are stacked against us. Local representatives, in the main, will not lend their voices or opinions, even though they will NOT be part of the planning application process, that falls to the arms length quango that is the National Park. We see moves recently where trees have been felled, illegally, already by 'persons unknown'. We now fear that the silence that has fallen over Balloch has fallen over the entire country. While it is right that developments near places such as Culloden get huge protests and media attention, our living breathing heritage, here at Balloch, on the banks of the most famous stretch of water barely registers, yet the effects will be even more far reaching, and immediate than a small housing estate near an ancient battlefield. The silence deafens us and shames us all. Here we stand to lose land and common rights that we have known for centuries. Here we are told we live in a dump, yet we have taken this quarter to our hearts, for generations. We are insulted, we are told we are selfish, we are accused of nimbyism. Yet we are the people of this area, largely working class, the workers and servants of industry, retail and commerce. The very same people who are told, this is good for you as we contemplate more commerce, more traffic and the utter removal of common lands and riverbank and bay from under our feet. How this will play out, none of us know, and we are being fed silence to keep us from reacting. We can only react when we see the plans, because the sale has been orchestrated out of our view and in secrecy by any other name. We wont know if we can make a difference, we dont know if the Scottish Government will even listen. So far, those in authority and in the know only have to keep silent and we have to wonder why. If after all of this, we are not listened to, I urge you to watch this video. This is our Balloch, this is what it means to us. These scenes are our now, please help us ensure they are not the scenes of our, and your, past....
