To make a case against is, in this case, relatively simple. But that's of no use whatsoever unless we can make a case also for the retention of these lands (or their being gifted to the community). Here are some suggestions: 1:) Set up a Community Trust to manage the lands, woods, riverside and shore as well as access, facilities, and transportation 2:) Create a permanent educational and heritage centre with funding from government bodies and/or National Lottery 3:) Development plan to assist local businesses, existing and start up, make use of the land where appropriate 4:) In co-operation with government, both local and national, create a new street of artizan / crafts workshops (Made In Balloch!) for year round production and employment, supplying local businesses with products and services as well as exporting to other areas 5:) Work with other organisations and local businesses to foster events on the spaces on a rolling basis: fairs, calendar events, historic events, homecomings, illuminations, galas and so on. 6:) Develop sensitive plans to make the riverside attractive at all times of day, linking the Maid of the Loch and Lomond Shores encouraging footfall and appreciation of all of Balloch's walks, facilities, shops, transport links whilst retaining its natural gentle walks and character 7::) Create a new village port to welcome visiting boats and work with existing boatowners and service providers to create a vibrant living harbour that complements existing services and pleasure trips. These are just some broad suggestions that could see these lands used without damaging the heritage, wildlife or fabric of the riverside, woods and bay. At the same time keeping Balloch open and accessible, and with freedom to enjoy the river and the loch as millions already do. If you agree, sign our petition, and leave your own suggestions which we will present to the Planning Committee. Local businesses too, think of ways YOU could benefit both your business and Balloch's people and visitors in creating a co-operative open village environment. Lets show the world Balloch is not only open for appropriate business, but is a village that puts respect for its privileged position first and foremost and preserves its character, its natural assets and free views and open welcomes for all.
