Hi All
This is a very important but worrying update. SNH are the government organisation responsible for ensuring the protection of all wildlife in Scotland including wildcats. They also run the government plans to allegedly save the wildcat called Scottish Wildcat Action. This is the so called ‘official’ wildcat project. They have responded to the consultation on the proposed development of a second windfarm in the Clashindarroch, the wildcats last stronghold. In summary they do not object to this development. They state ‘We advise that there are important wildlife interests on site but these will not be adversely affected following the implementation of mitigation and a Habitat Management Plan proposed by the applicant (Vattenfall)’. This is astonishing to us. They think it is ok to clear fell large areas of forest, install wind turbines and industrialise the last stronghold of the Scottish wildcat. Their full response to the windfarm consultation can be found on the news section of our website:
When the government agency responsible for protecting last wildcats behaves in this way, we can either get despondent or fight to save them. Guess what, we are going to fight and are more determined than ever to stop this development.
As always your support is invaluable.
Thank you
The Wildcat Haven Team
