Hi everyone,
Hopefully you have spotted that our campaign has been shortlisted for "Campaign of the Year" for the SCVO Charity Awards.
While Campaign of the Year is decided by a judging panel , we can also win the "People's Choice Award" through votes and social media activity. It would be great if you were able to take the time to vote for us and share on social media activity. If we can create a bit of a buzz it will signal that this is still an issue which many people care about.
Also when you vote you will be given the opportunity to register for the event, so hopefully we can all celebrate together :) . All you need to do it click on the link below, thanks to everyone who has done so already.
A wee reminder of our campaign:
Save Your Outdoor Centres Campaign
The aim of the ‘Save Your Outdoor Centres’ campaign was to secure funding from the Scottish Government to ensure that Scotland’s Residential Outdoor Education Centres did not close. Not only did the campaign succeed in getting £2 million of funding, it brought together outdoor centres, voluntary sector organisations, young people, teachers and politicians from across Scotland. The campaign mobilised over 25,000 people to sign a petition calling Scottish Government to provide funding, and also encouraged people to share their own memories of school residentials and the impact that it has made on them.
Vote because…
The outdoor residential has been a feature of Scottish education for years, creating life-long memories for millions of young people. Highly valued by teachers, it develops young people’s self-confidence and helps with mental health and wellbeing. Yet due to the restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic residential outdoor centres could not operate as normal, and without the success of the Save Your Outdoor Centres campaign many would have closed permanently.
Thank you so much for your support both in the past and now,
#SaveYourOutdoorCentres team
