They have all been recorded, are being passed to our local MSP Liam McArthur this afternoon, and will help inform the decisions we hope the Scottish Government and Orkney Islands Council will take regarding supporting the provision of a local abattoir service in Orkney. Is it vital that Scottish Island abattoirs are recognised & funded as essential public infrastructure that, yes, needs some support from Government & Councils, but the economic and social benefits they provide to remote island communities far outweighs the level of support needed. I leave you with a photograph of the North Ronaldsay sheep whose very future may depend on the provision of a local abattoir service they can use.
