Update:

Six men ‘released’:

As reported in today’s Sydney Morning Herald  six men were recently ‘released’ from the Bomana prison in Port Moresby, having signed for ‘voluntary’ repatriation.

I have no doubt that these men ‘agreed’ to sign because they could no longer endure the torture and suffering inflicted on them. I also have no doubt that they were in no state to make clear, informed, sound or safe decisions. It is reported that the six men emerged from Bomana extremely ill, frightened, thin and exhausted.

I have amended the petition to take account of the fact that there are no longer 53 men locked away inside Bomana. However, it is very clear that the welfare and the fates of those ‘released’ remain gravely affected by their imprisonment there.

Pezzullo blames PNG:

Today Mr Pezzullo said of the 47 men who remain imprisoned in Bomana :

“These persons are being held pursuant to Papua New Guinea immigration law...How persons are held, whether their phones have been removed, whether they have email and/or internet access is strictly a matter for Papua New Guinea."

This is an attempt to hide the truth and to abdicate responsibility for those whom the Australian Government has imprisoned on Manus and in PNG for the last six years.

This is very much our government’s doing and their responsibility.

We must let Morrison know that we will not allow him, nor Pezzullo, to use PNG as a cover for this dirty work. This is an outrageous, deliberate and cruel violation of human rights. And the Australian Government is responsible.
