Friends, Priya and Nades are two of the most courageous, caring people I know. The strength of their love for their beautiful girls, Kopi and Tharni, really shone through when they sat down for their first ever face-to-face interview, on The Project last night.
In the three and half years since Priya, Nades and the girls were snatched from their Biloela home at dawn, the world has changed.
The pandemic means country towns like Biloela are crying out for hard workers like Nades as never before. Politicians are saying our meat processors are running at two thirds capacity because there's no-one to do the work.
And earlier this year, a Tribunal with the same status as the UK High Court threw out a flawed country report the Australian Government has used to deny the terrible dangers Tamil people like Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni face in Sri Lanka.
Six government MPs have already broken ranks to speak up for our Biloela family, but too many are still sitting on their hands - please, can you ask your MP or Senators to speak up now, while there's still time?
It was hard to see the fear in Priya's eyes when she was asked what could happen if her family is forced from Australia. I've heard Priya and Nades’ stories and I know their fears for their bright, beautiful little girls are all too real.
With only 26 days to go until politicians could put this family back in detention or force them from Australia to danger, it's so important to speak up now.
Most Australians want to see this family come safely home to Biloela. I wish that a petition with over half a million signatures was enough to make our politicians listen.
