Tharnicaa medically evacuated to Perth hospital

Angela Fredericks
BILOELA, Australia

Jun 7, 2021 —

Friends, Tharnicaa has been medically evacuated to Perth after being hospitalised on Christmas Island with a suspected blood infection. Priya is accompanying her, but Nades and Kopika have been separated from the little one for the first time.

Please, can you tap here to send an email to your MP or Senator, asking them to tell Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews to bring the family #HomeToBilo?

Tharnicaa had been unwell for 10 days, including vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, and a temperature reaching over 40 degrees. Priya has been requesting medical attention for Tharni since last Tuesday, but the detention staff refused to take her to the hospital until Sunday.

Priya told me that her little cockatoo “has been sick for many days, it took a long time for her to get to the hospital. She is already asking for her Papa, it is going to be very hard being away from her dad and sister. It is very hard for our family to be separated when our daughter is sick.”

Please, can you tap here to send a message to your MP? The new Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews could end this saga today.

I will keep you all updated when we learn more. This is yet another instance of lack of proper medical care for our little Biloela girls. If Priya and Nades were able to access medical services for their children the moment they needed it - as they would in the Australian community - we would not see these shocking delays.

This Saturday, little Tharnicaa will turn four. She has been in detention for almost all of her young life. During that time she has suffered vitamin deficiencies due to lack of sunlight and fresh fruit and vegetables.

Detention is no place for children. This beautiful family belongs back home, in Biloela.

While we wait to hear more about Tharnicaa’s condition, I’m asking you to take action. Please, tap here to send a quick email to your MPs and Senators.

With hope,

Angela
