Friends, yesterday Karen Andrews succeeded Peter Dutton as Home Affairs Minister. Ms Andrews is now the 5th politician to be handed the power to bring Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls home to Biloela with the stroke of a pen.
Just like Kopi and Tharni, Ms Andrews was born in Queensland. As a Minister and a mechanical engineer, she has been a strong advocate for women and girls working in male-dominated fields like science and technology.
Last week, Ms Andrews made headlines when she said she’d had “an absolute gutful” of disrespectful behaviour towards women in our Parliament.
Respect for women starts with respect for girls. And today, two QLD-born girls waking up to their 1,120th day in detention will be escorted to kindy and primary school by guards.
We need to act - please tap here to send your urgent but polite e-mail to Karen Andrews now.
This decision should be far from a difficult one for Ms Andrews. It’s now almost two years since the Department of Home Affairs asked the former Immigration Minister to grant visas allowing Priya, Nades and the girls to live freely in the community.
Over 360,000 Australians have signed this petition. Everyone from Alan Jones to Barnaby Joyce have gotten behind the call to bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni home to Biloela.
And right now, your support for our crowdfunder means we can support Ms Andrews to do the right thing by putting two massive billboards up on the Gold Coast with a simple message to Mr Morrison: “Please, Prime Minister, you can bring these girls home to Biloela”.
Thank you to you all for everything you have done - and continue to do - to bring this family home to to Biloela.
With hope,
Angela
