Friends, seven months after a judge found that little Tharnicaa was denied “procedural fairness”, she is still on Christmas Island. Yesterday, politicians who speak of ‘compassion’ were back fighting this little Queenslander in court. Instead of bringing Tharnicaa home, they are trying to force her from Australia to danger.
Today, can you send an email to your government MP so Tharnicaa and her family can come home to Bilo? Our politicians have had the power to do this since day one.
Yesterday’s court proceedings finished earlier than expected. It will now be months until a decision is handed down. In the meantime, we go about our lives. But for Tharnicaa and her family, every day is another painful reminder that they are being denied their freedom.
QLD-born Tharnicaa was only 9 months old when Peter Dutton’s Border Force snatched her family from their Biloela home in March 2018. At age three, she has spent more than three-quarters of her life in detention.
Whatever the courts decide, under Australian law the politicians could bring Tharnicaa and her family home with a stroke of a pen.
With hope,
Angela
