If Mr Dutton can help European au pairs, why won’t he help when 178,000+ Australians ask him to bring a Tamil family home to Biloela, QLD? As PM, when will you tell him to do the right thing?

At 4pm last Friday, a court order protecting Priya and three year Kopika from deportation ran out. As I watched the minutes and seconds tick away, I could only imagine how this must feel for Priya and Nades.

At the last minute, Priya’s lawyers obtained an undertaking from Mr Dutton’s legal team. Mr Dutton agreed not to remove Priya and Kopika from Australia while their application to the High Court is pending.

I breathed a huge sigh of relief.

But I know that there is no guarantee that the High Court will grant Priya leave to appeal.

And I know that the very best the courts can do is send Priya and Kopika’s case back to the beginning of Mr Morrison’s so-called “fast track” process, which failed them so badly almost two years ago.

And I know that even if Priya and Kopika somehow clear all of these hurdles, Nades and one year old Tharunicaa could still be forced from Australia to danger.

The truth is, this family is still in a desperate situation. We need the Minister for Immigration or the Minister for Home Affairs to step in immediately. And for that to happen, we need Mr Morrison to hear the voices of the 178,000 Australians who have signed this petition.

Today, at 4.45pm (3.45pm QLD time), Mr Morrison is appearing at a Facebook Live event. He’s inviting Australians to ask “whatever you like”.
