On Friday night, Priya called. She was crying, terrified and distressed. She and Nades had just been given notice that they would be forced from Australia to Sri Lanka. The date on the notice was Tuesday 26 June. Tomorrow. We don’t have much time. The action we take in the next few hours will be critical. Please join me in asking Qantas and eleven other airlines not to let Mr Dutton use their aircraft, pilots and crew to force this beautiful family from Australia, by signing this new petition: https://www.change.org/p/qantas-fly-these-queensland-born-sisters-home-to-biloela-not-to-danger We’ve written letters. We’ve made phone calls. We’ve delivered a 100,000 strong petition to Mr Dutton. We even persuaded a Liberal Senator to take up our cause. After all this, tomorrow Mr Dutton plans to force two Queensland-born children and their loving parents from Australia to danger. But he can’t do it without the help of pilots, flight attendants and ground crew. Last week, the world was shocked by the cries of migrant children separated from parents in the name of “borders”. It made me think of how frightened little Kopika and Tharunicaa must have been when Border Force separated them from their loving parents during the long journey from Biloela to Melbourne’s harsh detention centre. President Trump backed down from this barbaric practice after six commercial airlines said they would not let their aircraft and crew be used in this way. If it can happen in the US, it can happen here. Please help me to send a powerful message to Qantas and eleven other airlines operating flights to Sri Lanka right now: https://www.change.org/p/qantas-fly-these-queensland-born-sisters-home-to-biloela-not-to-danger Thank you, Angela
