GET SCHOOLS TO TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO MANAGE THEIR MONEY

GET SCHOOLS TO TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO MANAGE THEIR MONEY
The Issue
WE BELIEVE THAT PERSONAL FINANCE AND FINANCIAL LITERACY ARE ESSENTIAL LIFE SKILLS AND SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES AS PART OF A CORE CURRICULUM.
Our goal is to reach, educate and inform American audiences small and large—from young people learning how to save for their first bicycle, to baby boomers planning for a secure retirement. We believe un-conflicted, impartial financial and investment principles should be a cornerstone of life skills, but the educational system does not by and large teach it. Your support helps us achieve this goal.
This petition will be presented to every school principal, counsellor, Teacher’s Association and teacher we can reach to pressure decision makers (school boards, curriculum committee) to require financial education.
“I learned nothing about finances in school.
I am a high school teacher (PE/Health) and i know all of our seniors (in the entire state) are required to take Economics for a semester. They really learn NOTHING of any value. I didn’t really learn anything when i was in high school 12 years ago. I wish our schools would teach more but the teachers wont do it because it isn’t in the "standards" and i don’t think it will change. My parents don’t know anything about investing or financial literacy so they didn’t teach me anything about it. They did instill the basic ideas of spend less than you make, and if you are going to use a credit card pay it off entirely each month. I have learned a ton by reading all of your posts/comments on here and through spending a decent chunk of my free time reading books/listening to your podcasts.”
