Approve J.P. Stevens Quiz Bowl
Approve J.P. Stevens Quiz Bowl
The Issue
Quiz bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge, including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more.
J.P. Stevens, a high school in Edison, New Jersey, has been within the National Academic Quiz Tournament, with records dating back to 2005. As of 2020 however, there has been some difficulty in establishing ourselves within the school. In the past, we had a chemistry teacher, as our most recent advisor, who unfortunately left the school, and so this last year we were operating without one, thus being taken off the directory of JP's clubs. While our club is quite successful , we haven't been able to reach out to new members, conduct practices, and register for more matches. Last year, we were only able to compete in 2 tournaments.
This year, our new executive board has taken the initiative to revamp our club. We have increased membership, diligence, organization, and responsibility, as well as reached out to a potential new advisor. Seeing as our club is much more prepared to take on the new year and win competitions, we reached out to a co-curricular administrator, who denied us stating that "Quiz Bowl is not an approved JPS organization." Without further reasoning as to why Quiz Bowl no longer a part of JP Stevens, despite meeting whatever requirements necessary, we are attempting to rally support of our legitimacy.
By signing this petition, you support J.P. Stevens Quiz Bowl, and implore administration to recognize it once again.
