Local schools for Claygate Kids

The Issue

KIDS NOT COMMUTERS  Children living in Claygate have yet again been allocated out of borough  secondary school places, requiring a daily 3 hour return commute, navigating several changes on some of the busiest and congested routes in the area, despite living in catchment to two local schools that entail a short journey on the local K3 bus. Our children's transition to secondary school is being made even more stressful and worrying because of the careless and myopic planning of Surrey County Council. Not only are our kids faced with an epic journey, but also removal from the close knit community that they have grown up in. BATTLE OF THE BULGE The ramifications of additional  'Bulge' year classes introduced by Surrey County Council to meet the demand for primary school places in the area, has logically increased the need for more secondary school places. However, SCC has failed to replicate the 'Bulge' classes in the secondary schools in the area. Resulting in a huge deficit- which they are trying to negate by sending our children to under-subscribed schools out of the borough - irrespective of our children's well being, safety and welfare, and the community that they have grown up in.  Living in Elmbridge and paying our taxes to Elmbridge - should make our children attending a school in Elmbridge a priority, and preserve their right to an enjoyable and inclusive transition to their local secondary school with their friends and peers.  Please sign this petition in support of the kids in Claygate and let Linda Kemeny and Nicky Morgan MP know that they have  a responsibility to provide local school places to the children of Claygate.
